COVID patients now allowed visitors

August 04, 2021

Health Minister Dr. Kalumbi Shangula on Wednesday announced that COVID-19 patients admitted in hospitals will now be allowed visits by a family member.

Shangula said the revision of the COVID-19 protocols in relation to admitted patients was taken due to declining cases in the country.

“In view of the improved Covid-19 situation in the country, the Ministry has decided to allow visitation to Covid-19 patients by a family member. This decision was taken in order to allay apprehension of family members and to enhance recovery of the patients,” he said. The visitation protocols state that:

  • The patient is entitled to one visit per week.
  • The family member concerned will be provided with full protective equipment during such visit.
  • The visit will last for thirty (30) minutes.
  • Visits to different patients will be staggered and spread over in terms of dates and times so that there is no congestion of visitors in any COVID-19 ward at any time.
